Seventeen songs in 17 minutes, Painter collects together the premier grindcore assault unit's split releases, covering 1999 to 2003. Radical shifts in tempo and a knack for adding death and doom to the grinding mix are hallmarks of Pig Destroyer's work, and songs like "Rejection Fetish" and "Patterns of Failure" are supreme examples. They also cover the Stooges and Helmet ("Down in the Street" and "In the Meantime," respectively). Besides the absolute instrumental crush of each song, the more-animal-than-man vocals of J.R. Hays are completely out of hand.
