Germany's Pole (aka Stefan Betke) is in love with the sounds between the beats: he focuses on the intricate structures and minute fragments of stretched-out beats and fractured textures, making heavy use of filters, echoes and the gentle crackling hum of white noise. Pole's newer material is a bit more cohesive, though there's still plenty of room for your head and ears to wander. From his beginnings in Basic Channel's reduced minimal techno, he has gradually warped his sound to include elements of hip-hop, Krautrock and dubstep.
