Head-bobbin beats with a rolling piano/mellow sax loop and effortless excellence on the mic, it's no surprise that Pumpkinhead's "Dynamic" blew up last year in their native NYC. They are high-profile players on the East Coast, often collaborating with other heavy hitters in the underground such as Non-Phixion and the Arsonists (Check out their Scheme Team 12") The production on their tracks is stellar and original, the "Dynamic" remix is basically the same music played backwards without sacrificing any of the original's catchiness. "It's Over" has a darker feel with a subterranean bass track and what sounds like swords in the background. Both tunes lyrically describe their superiority over wack rappers and unlike many with similar claims, Pumpkinhead has the skills to back it up. Their multiple emcees are superb in both delivery and content. They rock the mic slow and smooth or fast and furious and the rhymes are refreshingly clever, far more advanced than the money/guns/drugs themes so popular today. Pumpkinhead are on the rise, now go download 'em.
