Robert Cray

Cray and his band expand their repertoire a bit beyond the blues formula that's worked so well for them. Cray moves toward jazz on a couple of tracks, including "My Last Regret," and "Does It Really Matter" is perhaps his first rock song. "Poor Johnny," a subtle song about an ill-fated solider, highlights the album.

Almost twenty years ago, Cray made his good name with Strong Persuader, an excellent
album that demonstrated his prowess as a serious blues-guitar slinger and a gifted
singer-songwriter. He's done fine work in the years since, but too often Cray seemed to be
searching a tad aimlessly for just the perfect balance of his blues and more straight-ahead
