Description of Alt Metal

As Heavy Metal split off into countless microgenres in the '90s, many bands reacted against the sloppiness of Grunge and created concise, fast songs driven by an almost mechanical, Industrial beat. Rather than play sludgy chords, they produce tight, percussive riffs with a harsh, overdriven sound. Growling vocals continue the Grunge tradition of displaying introverted anger and politicized angst.
