Roy Eldridge was renowned for his exciting, brassy trumpet work on high-energy flag-wavers. On this 1957 set, Verve recast Eldridge as a sensitive balladeer who follows the melodies while Russ Garcia backs him up with a string orchestra. The romantic, cinematic make-out music closely resembles Jackie Gleason's best-selling sides with swing trumpeter Bobby Hackett.
