Roy Montgomery

About

Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, guitarist Roy Montgomery has become something of a legend in experimental pop and avant-garde circles. Past projects include seminal Post-Punk band the Pin Group (their first single was the first release on the now acclaimed Flying Nun label), Dadamah and Dissolve, as well as collaborations with Flying Saucer Attack and Bardo Pond. Like New Zealand brethren Michael Morley and Dean Roberts, his guitar style is instantly recognizable. While rich, colorful and melodic, Montgomery's chiming sound hides a subtle darkness -- a sort of tortured longing numbed by a polite smile and a soothing drone. Stunning work that manages to be simultaneously sprawling and intimate.
