Saliva's modern-day cheeseburger hard rock is best when it's just that--hard. See the opener and lead single from Blood Stained Love Story, "Ladies And Gentlemen." When they go for the beach bum hip-hop and breezy Nickelback balladry, though, things drag. Luckily for those who like to rock heavily, Saliva know enough to pace their 2007 release with plenty of clicks and lots of booms.

The fourth album from this Memphis quintet rocks like a motherfucker, tosses in
atmospheric keybs and shimmery sound effects, and drops a couple of slow ones. But
there's no remedy for crappy arena metal like "Ladies and Gentlemen" and mushy radio
filler like "Starting Over."
