Some Velvet Sidewalk's Al Larsen and the Pastels working together? Sounds like a panic attack for the die-hard Pastels fan -- but rather than jumping ship for SVS' ramshackle, vitriolic shakedowns, this collaboration stays safely in the strummed and moody vein of the Glasgow-based outfit. The combination actually may turn some heads, as Larsen's vocals add an uneasy sound to the otherwise wispy, beautiful transparency of the Pastels. His notes ride the mid-tempo, streamlined sunshine in much the same way a shaking hand might follow the dotted line on a sizeable loan certificate: carefully, anxiously, and ill at ease.
