Sister Gertrude Morgan

Sister Gertrude was a true American original. In the 1950s, after visions told her that she was the "Bride of Christ," the Sister started New Orleans' Everlasting Gospel Mission. Let's Make a Record, originally released in 1970, documents her ministry's church music: a mix of percussive gospel and raw, stripped-down blues. All the Sister does is moan and wail and bang a tambourine. The album is utterly mesmerizing and should be explored by anyone down with the likes of Blind Willie Johnson.
