Slaughter and the Dogs

About

Every now and again, a Punk band manages to cross the nearly invisible line that separates the louder, more chaotic genre from its Oi! offspring to settle down among the short list of mohawked heroes of Street Punk. Slaughter and the Dogs are one of those bands who managed to pen both Oi! and Punk classics -- blistering guitar assaults that still conjure up fond memories among the '77 set. Contributions such as "Cranked Up Really High" and a revved-up cover of the New York Dolls' "Mystery Girls" were enough to solidify their bristles 'n' spikes status, although it was probably "Where Have All The Bootboys Gone," a blaring, fist-in-the-air sing-along, that made them darlings among those who championed Oi! As is nearly always the case with early Punk icons, the band fell apart after a few short years (and nearly took on Morrissey as their lead singer before coming to their senses), leaving behind a few classic songs that still stick in your head after just one listen.
