Although the heavily built chug 'n' soar construction of "Believe" and "This Is It" represents the reliably platinum stuff that Staind have fine-tuned, their sixth album is a more focused and warmer affair than anything else in the alt rockers' catalog. The Illusion of Progress not only features midtempo, minor-chord meditations on the dark side of life, it also flaunts an apparent visit to the Dark Side of the Moon with the sparkling grandeur of tracks like "The Corner."
