Steely Dan have too many great songs for this one disc set to truly be a "definitive." That said, there is no faulting the 16 cuts that are here. The oddly unsettling movie theme "FM" is combined with hits, fan faves -- "Bad Sneakers" "Deacon Blues" "Babylon Sisters," "Kid Charlemagne" -- and a couple of surprisingly consistent tunes from their reunion albums. The Dan's career now crosses over four decades, yet their melodies, crisp sound and biting lyrics (which balance bitterness, anger and melancholy with ironic humor) continue to resonate.
