Improvisational trio from the East Coast take their name from the German literary movement Sturm und Drang. Whereas that movement had a definite form, Storm and Stress instead lapse into arrhythmic patterns and Ian Williams' (Don Caballero) disjointed guitars. Vocals pipe in occasionally and the drums, shirking their conventional role as timekeepers, work as an instrument unto themselves. Never quite lapsing into pure noise or dissonance, Storm & Stress manage to eke out an oddly melodic sound that is not reliant on common structure or the past.
