Syd Barrett

This album of demos, lost tracks and alternate takes didn't come out until 1989, but it's as essential as anything else Barrett recorded. Obviously spinning down into a darker place, he's still able to illuminate his journey via guitar and his cracked voice. The sustained vocal notes on the title track are just one moment of brilliance on this demented, surreal release.
