Tantric

About

Tantric's genesis lies in the Kentucky-based band Days of the New, in which Todd Whitener (guitar), Jesse Vest (bass) and Matt Taul (drums) found their first taste of success. Hot on the heels of an enormously successful debut, Days of the New spent the summer of 1998 opening for their heroes, Metallica. It was on this tour that Days started to unravel, and once back home in Kentucky, three members split. They formed Tantric shortly thereafter, bringing in singer Hugo Ferreira to round out the lineup. Tantric's 2001 eponymous debut, a mixture of hard-hitting southern rock and post-grunge-styled riffs, sold over 500,000 copies and earned the band its first gold record. Tantric's sonically similar sophomore album, After We Go, was released in March 2004.
