This concert in front of 600,000 people, amid a torrential thunderstorm in July of 1973, provides a window into the scrappy brilliance of one of America's most inventive rock bands. From the ramshackle rendering of Chuck Berry's "Back to Memphis" to Rick Danko's take on the Four Tops' "Loving You Is Sweeter than Ever," this is the Band's collaborative zenith. More than their repertoire, though, the improvisational genius and reckless, youthful chemistry shames The Last Walz and makes this the greatest live document of a great group, truly The Band.
