Columbia has produced an untold number of greatest hit packages for the Byrds, and Super Hits is one of the more curious examples. It consists of five classic singles, including "Eight Miles High" and "Chestnut Mare," and, surprisingly enough, five deep cuts that are all top notch, especially the jet-age psychedelia of "Artificial Energy." Although Super Hits can't compete with the Byrds' larger anthologies, its mixture of settled land and uncharted territory makes it a frontier ripe for exploring.
