The Chemical Brothers

The Chemical Brothers have defined their musical career by their all-inclusive DJ sets, so it's hardly surprising that their own ideas should evolve over time into new areas. On this 2007 release, they still have some of the epic crowd-goes-wild numbers beloved of longtime fans, particularly the title track and "Das Spiegel." The rest, however, sounds like they've been hanging with Basement Jaxx: It's catchy, poppy stuff, but silly and whimsical in places. This might be irritating, were it not for the fact that the Chems' unerring ear for quality still shines through on every song.
