The Gits

  • Genre: Punk
  • Hometown: Seattle

About

Born at Ohio's Antioch College and later relocating to Seattle, The Gits were one of Grunge/Punk's brightest rising stars before lead singer Mia Zapata's tragic death in 1993. Their '92 debut was a tattered battle flag raised on the outskirts of the Riot Grrrl movement. Bursting with guitar chug and feminist brio, it still inspires awe and, for many, activism. 1995's posthumous Enter: The Conquering Chicken contained brilliant moments of strident Punk and more intimate vignettes that served only to heighten the feeling of senselessness around Zapata's death.
