About
Recording in the '60s for one of the first true underground labels, ESP, the Godz began as an abrasive, avant-garde Garage band. Warbling lyrics about decapitation and space travel soon gave way to a more mainstream, Byrds-like, Folk-Rock agenda. It was their early, iconoclastic recordings, however, which helped to lay the blueprint for future movements -- most notably Punk's first wave and today's Lo-Fi/Indie scene. Championed by such luminaries as Lester Bangs and Thurston Moore, the newly-reformed Godz remind us that not everyone wore flowers in their hair.
