The Last Shadow Puppets

The Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner and the Rascals' Miles Keane discovered Scott Walker's mind-blowing 1960s orchestral pop and came up with this ironically titled album. The Last Shadow Puppets capture the vivid emotions and florid romance behind Swinging London but they wisely sidestep Walker's depths and instead go for an archly cinematic experience bursting with overstuffed narratives, romance and relentless rock melodies. There's not a bum track on here, with top marks going to "My Mistakes Were Made for You" and the Richard Hawley-style "Time Has Come Again."

As the leader of Britain's Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner creates spiky neo-post-punk that
avoids any revivalist fuddy-duddyism. But Turner's new side project, a collaboration with
