The Majesticons

About

A conceptual crew masterminded by hip-hop enigma Mike Ladd, the Majesticons embody all things "commercial rap." They are a Crystal-popping, party-jam-rocking, cash-flashing strike force doing battle against the Infesticons, another concept crew/rival posse that's all about difficult-to-digest, "abstract" production and pseudo-sophisticated lyricism. In this war of the worlds, the victor wins total control of hip-hop's future. The Star Wars-like saga began in 1999 with the release of the Infesticons' Gun Hill Road, and continued in 2003 with the Majesticons' Beauty Party. While both albums' biting satire and subterranean status will likely keep them from the ears of the people they're actually addressing, many indie-rap heads (especially those who dug Def Jux's S.A. Smash project) will find them hilarious and entirely on point. A third and final chapter of this epic struggle is said to be in the works.
