The Polyphonic Spree

Newcomers to the Spree sound would do well to check out their "Lithium" cover on this EP, wherein they strip away all of Nirvana's angry irony, and replace it with the grinning lobotomized glee that Cobain et al were railing against in the first place. This is not all bad -- their passion is infectious, albeit vaguely creepy in a "yes we are all individuals" way. Better to listen to their lovely original songs, of which there are two amongst the other cover versions. "Mental Cabaret" particularly stands out.
