The Smithereens

The Smithereens have gone where no other power pop group has gone. Instead of merely imitating the Beatles while still "writing" their own tunes, the New York quartet has actually morphed into a Fab Four tribute band. That's right. B-Sides is the second installment of this obsession, and it features covers of b-sides from the first wave of global Beatlemania: 1964. It's totally refreshing because the Smithereens don't sound like the bored bar band that they transformed into in the '90s.
