The Special Goodness

About

Between 1977 and 2000, Weezer was more or less a band in name only. Rivers Cuomo was away at Harvard and Matt Sharp was busying himself with the Rentals, which left drummer Patrick Wilson with plenty of time on his bands -- just the right amount of time needed to start up his own band: the Special Goodness. Toward the end of 1999, Wilson connected with childhood friend Pat Finn, Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh, roadie Karl Koch and drummer Lee Loretta to fill out the line-up, entering a studio to record the songs that would make up their self-titled debut. Released in 1998, the Special Goodness embarked on two short tours in support of the album, but neither to much fanfare. In 2003, the band recorded its follow-up, Land Air Sea for the N.O.S. label. Epitaph Records picked up the recording and released a remixed, resequenced and remastered version of Land Air Sea the following year.
