The Stooges

The Stooges stormed out of the small, genteel university town 43 miles east of Detroit and unintentionally laid the groundwork for what would become the first wave of American punk with their ferocious, angry, atonal rock and mostly handmade proto instruments. Now 35 years later, Iggy Pop's bellicose exhibitionism and sex yodels, Scott "Rock Action" Asheton's untutored trash can drumming and Ron Asheton's psychedelic were the highlight of the 2007 Lollapalooza -- from the monomaniac dysfunction of "I Want to Be Your Dog" to "1969," an anthem that was the true ending of peace, love and understanding.
