Thomas Dolby will be remembered for the wacky pop of "She Blinded Me with Science," but it barely touches his real triumphs. "One of Our Submarines" was one such song, a synth-pop paean to England's dwindled empire, complete with some of the most dazzling keyboards synth-pop ever amassed. The song is borne along by the high-profile remixers stepping up, among them the skip-tracing Akufen and minimal maestro Villalobos. The latter turns in one of the best remixes of his career, spinning Dolby's deep-end ballad into an epic, convoluted churn of driving beats, resonant synths and heady effects.
