Description of Good Old Days

Good Old Days refers to nostalgic songs that remind us of rosier times. These are often pulled out of the repertoire during times of national stress. This style also includes novelty-oriented tunes and old-fashioned numbers meant to comfort or cheer through familiarity. Artists like Al Jolson and Jimmy Durante capitalized on the public's desire to relive fond memories of yesteryear. Today, record labels capitalize on that same desire by releasing compilations of songs from various periods of historical importance, like World War II or the Great Depression.
