She trained at Beijing's prestigious Central Conservatory and was the first graduate to earn her degree for playing the pipa, a dulcimer-like instrument. Since moving to the United States from China in 1990, Man has made numerous recordings of both classical and contemporary repertoire. She's also inspired concertos, debuted works by composers (including Tan Dun!) and toured with Yo-yo Ma's Silk Road project.
